Problem

Finding parking in busy urban areas is a common challenge for drivers.

Existing parking solutions lack real-time updates or user-friendly interfaces, making the experience even more inconvenient. Drivers often struggle to locate nearby parking spaces, leading to frustration, wasted time, and unnecessary stress.

Goal

To design a user-friendly app that helps users find the nearest available parking spot quickly and efficiently.

Solution

Real-time updates with navigation features and reservation options.

  • Closest available parking

  • Clear navigation

Real-Time Availability

Reservation options

  • Book date and time

  • Price for the duration

Process

01. Discovery

Interviews were conducted with 4 frequent drivers to explore their parking challenges and preferences. Insights revealed a strong desire for real-time parking availability and intuitive navigation. Participants also emphasized the importance of accurate pricing and clear instructions.

02. Define

The sitemap and user flow were designed to prioritize simplicity and efficiency, ensuring that users could find and reserve parking spots with minimal effort. Key features included a real-time parking map, navigation, clear pricing.

03. Ideate

To begin the design process, I sketched multiple wireframes to visualize the app’s layout and functionalities. When designing paper wireframes for the parking app, my objective was to create a straightforward, intuitive layout that made finding and navigating to parking spots seamless. Beginning with paper sketches enabled me to explore different design concepts rapidly, emphasizing user interactions and navigation without focusing too heavily on finer details early on.

04. Validate

User research and testing revealed key insights into drivers' needs, preferences, and challenges when searching for parking. These findings were essential in guiding design decisions and refining features to create a more seamless, efficient, and user-friendly parking app experience.

  • Participants requested clearer pricing information directly on selected parking.

  • Participants in the study expressed interest in using voice search to make parking safer and quicker while driving.

Text Clarity

  • After paying for the parking ticket participants struggled knowing when the ticket wasn’t valid anymore.

  • Adding cancelation button.

Style Guide

Final product

  1. Booking and Reservation OptionsI would implement a feature allowing users to reserve parking spots in advance, ensuring peace of mind, especially in busy areas or during peak times.

  2. Car Park Reviews and RatingsAdding user reviews and ratings for different parking locations could help users make informed decisions about where to park, improving transparency and trust.

  3. Car Size CompatibilityIncluding a feature where users can filter parking spaces based on their car’s size (compact, standard, SUV) would ensure they are reserving spots that fit their vehicle.

What I’d do differently next time.
